The Montcada i Reixac City Council has opened a new Dog Recreation Area (AEG) in the Pla d’en Coll neighborhood, expanding public spaces for pets in the city.

The new enclosure, located on Camí de la Font Freda, opposite the old athletics tracks, covers approximately 800 square meters. It is designed to provide a safe space where dogs can run and play off-leash, thanks to a perimeter security fence.
The area features tree-lined zones and vegetation, benches for owners, and a dedicated water fountain for animals. This new facility is in addition to the existing recreation space on Carrer Pablo Picasso, in the Mas Duran neighborhood.
The City Council is also working on other projects to improve pet facilities. The construction of a third AEG is planned for La Llacuna park, which could become the largest in the Barcelona metropolitan area. Additionally, work is underway to adapt a Shared Use Zone (ZUC) on Carretera Vella, where dogs will be allowed off-leash during specific hours.
“

"With this new dog recreation area, we want to offer safe and adequate spaces for dogs to run, play, and socialize freely. It is also important to remember that animal welfare must be accompanied by civility and respect for the rules of use. Keeping these spaces clean and in good condition is a shared responsibility that contributes to ensuring good coexistence between animals and people."

Rafa Ruiz · Councillor for Animal Welfare
Councillor for Animal Welfare, Rafa Ruiz, highlighted the importance of these spaces for animal welfare and called for civility and respect for the rules of use to keep them clean and in good condition, thereby promoting good coexistence.
