Generalitat relaxes swine fever restrictions in Barcelona and 78 low-risk municipalities

The lifting of measures allows the reopening of interurban parks and picnic areas, but maintains the prohibition of access to nature in twelve high-risk locations.

The Generalitat de Catalunya has eased African Swine Fever (ASF) containment measures in Barcelona and 78 low-risk municipalities, allowing access to parks and recreational areas starting this week.

The lifting of restrictions allows access to parks that were previously closed, provided that the activities are non-organized sports and leisure that do not involve large crowds. Among the reopened spaces with access to Collserola are the Parc del Laberint d’Horta, the Parc de l’Aqüeducte, and the Hort urbà Masia de Can Soler.
Picnic areas located in the upper part of the city, including the Parc del Castell de l’Oreneta and Jardins de Rodrigo Caro, are also reopening. However, the prohibition on accessing the natural environment remains in force in the twelve municipalities considered high-risk, all located in the Vallès Occidental area, such as Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sabadell, Terrassa, and Rubí.

"It has been learned today that, finally, China will apply tariffs of 9.8% to Spain, instead of the 20% that had initially been suggested, and this is very good news."

Òscar Ordeig · Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food, Òscar Ordeig, recently announced the confirmation of ten new cases of wild boars testing positive for ASF, raising the total figure to 26 cases. Ordeig assured that this increase is within the expected range, considering the intensified active search for infected animals being carried out, and that neither the affected radius nor the operational plan is being modified.
Despite the partial lifting of measures, authorities recommend that citizens maintain distance from wild boars and, if they find a dead or sick animal, call 112. They also advise intensifying the cleaning of bins and containers and placing cat colony feeders in elevated spots to prevent boar access.
