The Carnaval de la Plana del Pintor troupe in Sabadell celebrates nearly three decades of life, keeping its tradition intact with 130 participants and a strong focus on generational handover.

The staging of the Plana del Pintor carnival remains one of the most anticipated events in Sabadell, even though the original founders are no longer involved. This year, around 130 people are participating, 90 of whom are part of the troupe, demonstrating the project's vitality and drawing power.

"There is a waiting list to join! Many people have had to stay out."

The origin of this celebration dates back to a neighborhood initiative born in a sewing workshop, where a group of women decided to participate in the carnival using the garments they had learned to make. That modest parade, featuring a small truck and simple animal costumes, has evolved into a professionalized troupe that has won awards almost every year and exports Sabadell's talent, also participating in the Calella carnival.
One of the main pillars of the project is the transmission of knowledge between generations. The core group of daily workers consists of about twenty people, managing logistics, the truck, and sewing. Veteran seamstress Angustias Martínez emphasizes the importance of teaching young women machine sewing, stating that “otherwise, this tradition will be lost”.
The themes of the troupes have been very diverse over the decades, including Aladdin, Las Vegas, royal peacocks, or Burlesque. Among the anecdotes, the incident from last year is remembered, when the music equipment broke down just before the parade, forcing participants to sing a cappella to keep the show going.
