The Provincial Court of Barcelona is trying a leisure monitor from Sabadell this week, who is accused of five continuous crimes of sexual abuse against minors under sixteen at a public school in Castellar.

The 7th Section of the Provincial Court of Barcelona hosts the trial against the accused, originally from Sabadell, who allegedly used his position as a monitor to repeatedly commit the abuses between 2018 and 2019. The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting 30 years in prison, disqualification, and six years of supervised release after serving the sentence.
The case caused great shock in the educational community of Castellar. The local City Council expressed its rejection of the decision by the Investigating Court number 2 of Sabadell to release the monitor, who had been arrested in February 2020. The council considered that the measure did not prioritize the protection of the affected students.
Since the first indication of the crime became known, the Castellar City Council worked in coordination with the school, the AMPA (Parents' Association), and the Department of Education of the Generalitat. Legal and psychological assistance resources were provided for the children, families, and teaching staff.
The accused had also previously worked at other centers, such as the Joanot Alisanda school in Sabadell. However, no evidence has emerged of victims during his time at other facilities, as the facts being judged are concentrated during the period at the Castellar school.
