The entity, which has belonged to La Unió since its inception, made the renewal public after celebrating its 30th anniversary. According to Marta Barquín, a member of the board of directors, the commemoration was the starting point for a necessary "break" that allowed them to move forward.
“"It was a good moment to make this name change and provide ourselves with an entity with its own identity, fully linked to the activity we perform."
The new name, Esbart Mediterrània, is considered more "self-explanatory" and facilitates the collective's identification within the world of traditional dance. The goal is to better reflect their work in disseminating and maintaining the root dance of the Països Catalans, retaining the reference to Mediterrània as their identity.
The new corporate image is materialized in a logo based on an E and M filigree, inspired by the movement of dance, especially the waves drawn by the scarf in the Ball de Gitanes de Sant Cugat. Despite the renewal, the entity maintains its most identifying feature: the "medi" blue color, which will continue to be present in all their performances.
