Sant Cugat Deputy Mayor for Institutional Relations, Jordi Puigneró, today defended the municipal report on the viability of Bellaterra's annexation, rejecting accusations of disloyalty from the Cerdanyola Mayor.

The Deputy Mayor for Institutional Relations, Jordi Puigneró, has defended the actions of the Sant Cugat City Council regarding the report on the possible annexation of Bellaterra. With this statement, Puigneró rejects the accusations of “serious disloyalty” made by the Mayor of Cerdanyola, Carlos Cordón.

"We have made the report as technical as possible, despite it being a topic with a strong political load."

Puigneró emphasized that the document prepared by the Sant Cugat council responds exclusively to a legal and technical requirement. The text is limited to confirming “objective realities,” such as urban continuity between Sant Cugat and Bellaterra, the demographic difference, and the economic viability of the proposal.
The Deputy Mayor recalled that the annexation process is an internal matter for Cerdanyola, supported by a court ruling that mandates processing the file. Furthermore, he pointed out that if the annexation succeeds, the status of the EMD of Bellaterra is unclear, as reports from Sant Cugat and the Diputació do not see the automatic transfer of the entity as viable.
