The Sant Cugat En Comú Podem party expressed its rejection of the reports approved on January 7 by the Sant Cugat Local Government Board and the EMD de Bellaterra, which endorse the segregation of Bellaterra from Cerdanyola and its potential annexation to Sant Cugat.
this operation responds more to a logic of class and segregation by income than to a claim for autonomy, and is profoundly unsolidary with the whole of Vallès.
The Commons argue that any decision should prioritize intermunicipal cooperation, improving existing agreements, and strengthening public services. The party warns that losing Bellaterra, one of the areas with the highest contributory capacity, could weaken Cerdanyola's redistributive function and worsen internal inequalities.
While acknowledging the historical grievances of Bellaterra residents, the group insists demands should be met through better agreements, not by “breaking up a municipality.” They also point out that the continuity of the EMD de Bellaterra within Sant Cugat is not automatically guaranteed and requires a new decision from the Generalitat de Catalunya, which holds the final authority.
