The mayor of Sant Cugat del Vallès, Josep Maria Vallès, formally requested Sunday that Territori Minister Sílvia Paneque temporarily suspend the toll on the Vallvidrera Tunnels to mitigate the ongoing Rodalies transport crisis.

The mayor made his request public via the social network X, addressing the head of the Territori department directly. The measure seeks to offer a mobility alternative to citizens affected by the severe incidents and the interruption of train service plaguing the Rodalies network for days.

"The Vallvidrera Tunnels must be free while the chaos in Rodalies lasts."

Vallès emphasized that the proposal follows the precedent previously established with the Garraf toll, where a similar measure was applied to facilitate traffic during times of need or severe incidents on alternative routes. This connection is vital for residents of the Vallès Occidental who commute daily to Barcelona.
The train service crisis has recently worsened due to various factors, including a derailment and several landslides, especially on the R4 line between Cerdanyola and Sabadell, which have caused the suspension or drastic limitation of circulation across many sections of Catalonia's railway network.
