The Sant Cugat City Council has reinforced safety controls in local nightlife venues following the tragic fire that occurred on January 5 in a bar in Switzerland, which resulted in about forty casualties.

The preventive action began immediately after the incident, which indirectly affected the city as a young person with family ties in Sant Cugat died. The council sent written communications to all nightlife establishments reminding them of the strict prohibition of any use of fire, in accordance with current state regulations and the provisions of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The safety of people is an absolute priority, especially in activities that may generate public concern.

The City Council maintains close coordination with the Direcció General de Prevenció, Extinció d’Incendis i Salvaments (DGPEIS) and the Subdirecció General d’Espectacles Públics i Activitats Recreatives. This collaboration aims to ensure the correct application of regulations and compliance with periodic controls, which must be carried out every four years.
The municipal government emphasizes that party halls and leisure venues must pass rigorous initial controls and use materials with the fireproofing characteristics required by current legislation. The Mayor of Sant Cugat, Josep Maria Vallès, plans to meet soon with the managers of all party halls to jointly address this issue and strengthen coordination with the sector.
