Dozens of children from the La Mirada school AFA in Sant Cugat del Vallès entered the City Hall on Thursday to demand a dedicated kitchen and a clear timeline for the definitive school building.

The mobilization, called by the AFA in front of Sant Cugat City Hall, escalated until the children accessed the lobby to demand the presence of the Mayor, Josep Maria Vallès. The educational community complains that La Mirada is the only public school in the municipality that, after nine years of provisional status, still lacks its own kitchen, forcing 450 students to receive catering meals.
Following the concentration, the Education Councillor, Carme Ardid, came out to explain the situation to the families. Ardid assured that the administrative blockage is about to be resolved and that the Governing Council of the Autonomous Education Body will approve the necessary contract next Tuesday to start the works.

"In principle, the works on the premises would start on January 8."

The Councillor indicated that, if the work progresses normally, the dedicated kitchen could be operational between February and March. Ardid admitted that the process has been “very complicated” due to legal difficulties stemming from the fact that the premises are owned by Promusa, a municipal public company.
For his part, Pau Parés, a member of the AFA, explained that the mobilization is the result of the accumulation of “unfulfilled promises and lack of information” over almost ten years. Although welcoming the explanations, the AFA demands more fluid communication to prevent future protests.
