The Consell Comarcal del Vallès Occidental has begun sending out informative letters with the final regional waste tax amount for 2026, payable from October 2nd to December 4th. Data from the first application period (January-May 2026) shows high citizen participation, especially in the organic waste fraction.
79.93% of households are in the optimal tier (tier 1) for organic waste, with over eight contributions, benefiting from the lowest fee. Only 13.05% are in tier 3, with fewer than three contributions. The Councillor for Environment, Jésica Jiménez, highlighted the positive response from citizens, stating that "the citizens of Santa Perpètua are responding very positively to the new system".
Regarding the residual waste fraction, 51.48% of households have reached the optimal tier (tier 1), with three to eight contributions. The councillor noted that there is still room for improvement in reducing residual waste generation and increasing correct separation, although the new model has already significantly reduced the total waste generated in the municipality.
Municipal data indicates a positive evolution in selective collection since the implementation of smart bins, with recycling rates increasing from 40% to approximately 80%. This was the first year where bin contributions directly impacted the regional tax, and the 2027 calculation will consider a full year.
The City Council has praised citizen collaboration, while lamenting the uncivil behavior of a minority. "We cannot let the uncivil behavior of a minority undermine the effort being made by the vast majority of citizens," stated Jésica Jiménez.
The municipal waste tax remains frozen for 2026 at 138 euros per household annually (11.50 euros monthly). Fiscal ordinances include discounts for economic vulnerability (30%-90%), for contributions to the recycling center (5%-15%), and for home composting (15%).
