The objective of this test is to trial the Civil Protection alert system, designed to quickly warn the population in vulnerable areas of industrial accidents, providing guidance on necessary confinement or evacuation measures.
A few minutes before the test, an alert will be sent to mobile phones informing them of the drill. At 10 AM, the chemical risk sirens will sound with an undulating tone, similar to an ambulance siren, indicating confinement. This sound will be repeated three times, each lasting one minute with five-second silences in between.
Twenty minutes after the start, the chemical risk sirens will emit a flat, high-pitched tone to signal the end of the confinement. Simultaneously, Civil Protection will send a second mobile alert with a link to a survey to assess the correct audibility of the sirens and the reception of the messages.
Civil Protection notes that the siren coverage and mobile phone antenna distribution may not perfectly align, and mobile messages might reach wider areas. In Santa Perpètua, mobile phones in the areas of Can Filuà, La Creueta, and parts of Centre Vila and Can Taió are likely to receive the alert.
The public is advised that in the event of a chemical accident, they should follow self-protection guidelines: take shelter in the nearest building, close doors and windows, disconnect ventilation systems, and await the all-clear notification.
