The brigade, composed of eight individuals, four of whom are residents of Santa Perpètua, completed their stay on the island by participating in various projects. Activities included setting up a summer camp and collaborating on initiatives such as improving energy efficiency for the Santa Clara hospital.
The Councilor for Cooperation and Human Rights, Sergi Hernández, highlighted the added value of this brigade to cooperation projects, recalling the municipality's previous support for Alkaria. Hernández encouraged the brigadistas to share their life-changing experience in Cuba with the youth of Santa Perpètua, emphasizing the importance of advocating for peace in a context of declining human rights.
The president of Alkaria, Xavier Barreda, expressed the organization's commitment to continuing the project, with plans for a new edition in 2027 and generational handover among participants. He noted that the 400 kg of supplies transported consisted mainly of medical provisions, supplemented by educational and sports materials.
Since 2022, Alkaria has been working in Cuba to alleviate the country's economic hardships, exacerbated by the U.S. embargo. Brigade members described the experience as highly enriching, valuing the collaboration with projects subsidized by the Santa Perpètua City Council and their support for local social and sports entities.
Roser Riera, a resident of Santa Perpètua, called her participation an opportunity to understand Cuba's sociopolitical context and expressed gratitude for witnessing the observed ingenuity and community strength. Meanwhile, Joan Travé, a returning brigadista, emphasized the direct impact of their actions on people's daily lives, particularly after installing computer equipment at a school in Santa Clara.
Finally, Alejandro Guerrero, also a brigadista, underscored the value of these projects in fostering solidarity and international cooperation.
