The information and control campaign for Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs) coordinated by the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) this week in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda will also be carried out by the Local Police.
This initiative coincides with the entry into force, on October 1st, of the modification to the General Traffic Regulations. This reform introduces new obligations for PMV users, including electric scooters.
The new regulations establish a minimum age of 15 years to drive PMVs. The use of a helmet and a reflective vest during the night or in low visibility conditions is also mandatory. Furthermore, maneuvers must be signaled with the arm. By October 2027, PMVs must have their lights on throughout the journey.
The main objective of the campaign is to inform users about these new obligations and verify compliance with the regulations, with a special emphasis on safety elements and traffic conditions.
The campaign also aims to promote safe coexistence among all road users, especially in urban environments where pedestrians, bicycles, PMVs, and motor vehicles intersect.
Additionally, the updated regulations make helmets mandatory for all cyclists on interurban roads and require reflective vests for delivery riders. Motorcyclists and their passengers must wear protective gloves and closed footwear. On urban roads, cyclists will preferably ride in the center of the lane, and motor vehicles must maintain a minimum distance of five meters behind. Overtaking a cyclist on an interurban road will require reducing speed by 20 km/h below the road's limit.
