The Terrassa City Council has been one of the bodies taking concrete action, explicitly prohibiting the adoption of black cats from its municipal center until November 10. According to the shelters, when black cats are unavailable, some people seek felines of dark tones, such as tortoiseshell or tabby cats.

The president of Abrazo Animal, Lola Julià, regrets that black cats continue to be adopted less due to unfounded superstitions, despite having an “extraordinary” character. Shelters also warn of the difficulty in proving abuse and criticize the shortcomings of the 2023 Animal Welfare Law.
