The Library of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia (IMLCFC) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, establishing itself as a key resource for professionals in the forensic field in Catalonia and across the state.

The IMLCFC Library, part of the Network of Judicial Libraries of Catalonia, marks two decades of service. This center provides updated scientific and technical information to forensic doctors, forensic psychologists, social workers, and justice administration personnel, playing a crucial role in their expert activities.
With a collection of 4,000 volumes and subscriptions to 162 specialized journals in legal medicine and health sciences, it is the most significant library of its kind in Spain. During 2025, it handled 4,012 information requests and served 1,560 users, in addition to distributing 73,000 electronic information products.
The Minister of Justice and Democratic Quality, Ramon Espadaler, inaugurated a commemorative exhibition this morning, highlighting the library as "a strategic tool for knowledge and forensic practice." Espadaler emphasized its contribution to ensuring the scientific rigor of forensic work and the quality of public justice services.
The event also featured a keynote lecture, 'AI in Libraries: Foundations, Applications, and Challenges,' delivered by Isabel Coma, head of the Library at the University Hospital of Terrassa. The session was concluded by the Secretary for the Administration of Justice, Iolanda Aguilar.
The director of the IMLCFC, Eneko Barbería, noted that the library is one of the institute's unique services, being the only one exclusively specialized in legal medicine and forensic sciences in Spain.
The IMLCFC Library is part of the Network of Judicial Libraries of Catalonia, which currently comprises 18 libraries and manages 115,000 books and eight legal databases. Last year, the network resolved nearly 40,000 inquiries.
