The ceremony, presided over by Dean Carmen Oriol and the President of the Human Rights Defense Commission, Jordi Estapé, took place at the Sala Crespi of the Casal de Sant Pere de Terrassa last Friday, December 12. The event served to emphasize the importance of defending fundamental rights.
One of the most emotional moments was the posthumous presentation of the Committed Advocacy Award to Rafael Gázquez Sancho, collegiate number 1.595. Gázquez, who died unexpectedly in October at the age of 56, was an active member of the Human Rights Commission and Amnesty International of Catalonia. His family members collected the award.
The Solidarity Award was granted to the Fundació Educativa Terrassa, a non-profit organization that supports children, youth, and families in vulnerable situations in the neighborhoods of Can Palet, Ca n’Anglada, and Ègara, promoting equal opportunities through education and social action.
In addition to the main awards, the Free Justice Diploma 2025 was presented to lawyer Josep Boada Batalla, in recognition of his dedication to the Duty Shift and Assistance to Detainees. The day included a conference by Terrassa journalist Joan Carles Peris, Head of the International Section of TV3, titled Europe: neither war is inevitable, nor peace impossible.
“"They contributed so that, once again, we value Human Rights and the people and institutions that make the defense of these Rights possible, day by day, and often without much visibility."
