Garrido, born on August 23, 2002, has taken over from Sarai Gascón in the adapted sports category. He started swimming at six years old due to medical prescription and by seven, he was already competing with CN Liceo, where he stayed for eleven seasons. Two and a half years ago, he joined Club Natació Terrassa, continuing his progress under the guidance of coach Xavi Bosch.
“"I always say that swimming is very objective. Whoever swims faster gets the medal. These kinds of recognitions always help you gain motivation to keep training hard."
The swimmer highlighted the importance of role models like Sarai Gascón and José Antonio Marí, whom he considers friends and key figures during his time at the CAR and now at the club. He has also had the opportunity to train with top athletes such as Mireia Belmonte.
At 23 years old, Garrido is already becoming a role model for younger athletes, although he does not see himself as one. He expresses pride when children approach him, thanking him and praising his swimming style. His message to them is clear: the key is constant work and daily perseverance.
After participating in two Paralympic Games, where he achieved two fifth-place finishes, and becoming a world champion in 2019, breaking two world records in short course, his major unfulfilled dream is to win an Olympic medal. With the Los Angeles Games a couple of years away, Jacobo Garrido is determined to give his all to achieve this goal.
