The Mossèn Homs Residence in Terrassa celebrated its 50th anniversary on January 26 with an institutional event where a 5.3 million euro investment for its comprehensive renovation was announced.

The festive event, held on Monday, January 26, served to highlight five decades of care and support for the city's elderly. Attendees included the First Deputy Mayor for Social Action, Patrícia Reche, the Councillor for the Elderly, Ruth Hibernon Martín, and the Director General of Accreditation and Provision of Services for the Generalitat de Catalunya, Xema Gil.

"From the 70s until today, this residence has known how to evolve and adapt to social, demographic, and professional changes."

Patrícia Reche · First Deputy Mayor for Social Action
During the celebration, it was confirmed that the Generalitat de Catalunya will allocate 5.3 million euros, sourced from the European Next Generation funds, for the comprehensive renovation of the residence. This investment is part of the total Next Generation actions in Terrassa, which exceed 30 million euros.

"We need to invest more in the elderly; with more places, higher quality, and a new model."

Xema Gil · Director General of Accreditation and Provision of Services
As explained by Xema Gil, the funds will be used to adapt the center to the new model for elderly residences and day centers. Specifically, the ground floor and floors 3 and 4 will be renovated, in addition to adapting the building to current environmental measures required by European legislation. The works are expected to last approximately 14 months.
