The Terrassa City Council confirmed that 75% of citizens now use side-loading containers, while the neighborhoods of Can Parellada and Les Fonts finalize their adaptation to the new system.

The Can Parellada neighborhood was the last to debut the new side-loading recycling containers, a change that allowed the City Council to reduce waste collection points from 29 to 20. Despite the reduction in points, the garbage storage capacity in the neighborhood has doubled. Simultaneously, the Les Fonts neighborhood is close to completing its transition, expected to finish in approximately ten days.

"This system has demonstrated high efficiency and effectiveness throughout these eleven years of operation in those areas where its implementation is technically possible."

Terrassa City Council · Official Statement
Since the implementation of these containers began in 2014, 629 new batteries have been installed, totaling 3,145 containers across the city. Currently, more than half of the container batteries in Terrassa (55.6%) are side-loading, a method now used by three out of four residents, reaching 75% of the population.
This modernization has replaced the old rear-loading containers, which were smaller and required operators to load them. The new, higher-capacity models allow the driver to collect waste without leaving the vehicle, facilitating "a redistribution of contribution areas and higher system agility." However, the council notes that orography and urban characteristics prevent their placement throughout the entire city.
