The updated Rodalies Plan 2020-2030, presented this Tuesday by the Territory Minister, Sílvia Paneque, forecasts a total investment of 8,037 million euros, representing a 26% increase compared to the 6,300 million euros initially planned. This figure covers the second half of the roadmap until 2030 and was announced during a press conference also attended by the Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano.
“"This is an absolutely essential update of a plan that has a very clear objective, which is to structurally improve the infrastructure and achieve the standards of efficiency and quality that we deserve as a country."
One of the most significant changes is the doubling of investment allocated to preventive and corrective infrastructure maintenance. The asset replacement program increases from 1,018 million euros to 2,243 million euros for the full period, with 1,340 million euros dedicated to maintenance over the next five years (2026-2030). Paneque highlighted that the plan represents an 'important change of pace' that includes more maintenance, planning, and user focus.
The plan is structured around three main objectives: improving reliability, increasing capacity, and enhancing service quality. To achieve these, 4,386 million euros will be invested between 2026 and 2030. Actions include the construction of new stations and major renovations at key points such as Sants, la Sagrera, Camp de Tarragona, and Montcada – Bifurcació, in addition to the renewal of the rolling stock with 110 new units.
