The goal is to make Caldes de Montbui the first municipality in Spain with a significant level of collective energy self-consumption, thanks to the new facility located in La Borda. This project, promoted by the Climate Action Office, complements the existing Local Energy Community (CEL).
The photovoltaic complex, with a capacity of 969 kWp (805 kWn) and a 1000 kWp storage system, will be built at Carrer Priorat number 3, on a block near the waste collection center and the emergency services hub. In addition to energy production, the facility will include 238 public parking spaces and a municipal electric vehicle charging station with four double 11 kW chargers.
The stored solar energy is expected to cover the public lighting consumption, reducing the City Council's annual electricity bill from €250,000 to €60,000. This measure is part of the council's sustainability and energy saving policies.
The project is supported by a €1.2 million grant from the Barcelona Provincial Council, covering 63.2% of the tender budget, which amounts to nearly €1.9 million. The project design and site supervision have been handled by the Climate Action Office staff.
The deadline for submitting bids for the construction of the complex ends this week. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with an estimated duration of eight months.
