Itinera Festival opens call for musicians from small villages until April

The initiative aims to decentralize culture by supporting artists living in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 residents.

The Itinera project has launched its third call for musical talent from micropueblos (small villages), inviting artists from municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants to apply before April 25.

Supported by the 'la Caixa' Foundation, the initiative seeks to challenge the centralization of culture in urban areas. Carmen Crespo, CEO of Itinera, emphasized that the project provides professional opportunities for rural musicians who often struggle to enter mainstream circuits.
To be eligible, at least one band member must be registered as a resident in a small village. A professional jury will select ten winners to join the festival's roster, guaranteeing them at least four concerts during the 2026 season. Early registration numbers are already higher than in previous years.

"Culture is very centralized in urban areas. It is very difficult to live solely from performing concerts."

The Itinera Festival will celebrate its sixth edition in 2026, with an official launch scheduled for May 23 in Montseny. The program will run until November and include new partnerships, such as with the Pau Casals Foundation, to foster social cohesion.
