Granollers Hospital Adopts DaVinci Robot for Gynecology

The Gynecology Service at Granollers Hospital has commenced procedures using the DaVinci robotic system, a technology that enhances precision and minimizes invasiveness in complex operations.

The General Hospital of Granollers has ushered in a new era of gynecological surgery with its first intervention performed using the DaVinci system. This advanced technology allows for the tackling of highly complex surgical procedures through a minimally invasive approach with significantly increased accuracy.
According to Marta Girvent, Head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service, the robot enables surgeons to operate with a joystick offering much finer movements. "This allows for very long surgeries with better quality," stated Girvent, who also noted that, in the long term, this technology can reduce the overall duration of interventions.
With this addition, the hospital's Robotic Surgery program is expanding. Previously, the DaVinci system was exclusively used by the Urology and General Surgery departments, making Gynecology the third service to adopt this innovation.
Since November 2024, the General Hospital of Granollers has been a pioneer in robotic surgeries. In just over eighteen months, nearly 150 patients have undergone operations with the robot's assistance, encompassing procedures from Urology, General Surgery, and the recent addition of Gynecology. The rate of interventions continues to climb.
Hospital data indicates that 72 robotic surgeries were performed during 2025, a figure that has already been matched in the current year, 2026. Approximately half of these operations have focused on treating prostate cancer, the most common condition within the program. The remaining procedures are distributed among colorectal cancer, morbid obesity, and other digestive and urological conditions. The hospital anticipates this growth trend will persist, with potential new specialties being integrated in the coming months as teams gain further proficiency with the technology.
