The primary objective is to minimize the risk of forest fire spread and enhance the safety of residents, their homes, and local infrastructure. These actions are part of the Metropolitan Program for Forest Management Interventions (PMAF) promoted by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB).
The work will focus on reopening and widening the perimeter safety zones in the Creu Nova, Mirador, Carsos, and Pontarró urbanizations. Tasks in Creu Nova and Mirador are scheduled for 2026, while Carsos and Pontarró are planned for 2027. The company Talher, S.A. has been awarded the contracts, under the technical supervision of the AMB.
The protection strips, currently 25 meters wide, will be extended up to 50 meters in designated sectors. This will involve reducing tree density, clearing underbrush, and creating vegetation discontinuity spaces. This measure aims to decrease the amount of available combustible material and facilitate access for emergency teams and forestry machinery to the urbanizations' boundaries.
In addition to fire prevention, these interventions will also contribute to improving the forest mass. The goal is to reduce excessive pine density and promote the growth of oaks and holm oaks, fostering a more robust and resilient forest ecosystem against potential adversities.
