Juan Araujo, Key Figure in Granollers Associative Life, Dies at 90

The social activist, closely linked to the Anònims association, arrived in Catalonia in 1978 fleeing the Uruguayan dictatorship.

Social activist Juan Araujo, well-known for his involvement in organizations like Anònims and the Marea Pensionista, died yesterday Tuesday in Granollers at the age of 90.

The passing of Juan Araujo, who died yesterday Tuesday, leaves a significant void in the associative fabric of Granollers. He was especially known for his dedication to Anònims, where he was a regular participant in activities and managed membership recruitment campaigns.
His activity was not limited to that entity. Araujo was also an active member of the Marea Pensionista (Pensioners' Tide) and was affiliated with the CNT union. Furthermore, he collaborated with the Anteu de Granollers in the street readings organized every Sant Jordi, often accompanied by his wife, Celia González, also a recognized figure in the city.
The couple, Araujo and González, arrived in Spain in 1978, fleeing the dictatorship in Uruguay, along with their two children. Years later, they settled in Granollers, where they began their intense civic participation.
Regarding his working life, Juan Araujo worked for years at the Hospital de Granollers, performing blood extractions. His wife, Celia González, who was also a healthcare professional in Uruguay, ran a costume jewelry stall at the Thursday market. The Anònims association paid a surprise tribute to the couple approximately a year ago. Following his wishes, Juan Araujo's body has been donated to science.
