The long-distance runner Santi Catrofe secured third place in the Marugame Half Marathon (Japan) on Sunday, February 1, setting a new Catalan record with a time of 1h00:21.

The AD Calvià runner managed to lower the previous best mark by almost a minute, which was held by Carles Castillejo with 1h01:18. This historic record by Castillejo had been in place since February 3, 2013, when it was established at the Granollers race.

The new 1h00:21 record represents an improvement of almost a minute over the previous Catalan best, demonstrating the athlete's excellent form.

Catrofe was only surpassed by Kenyan athletes Richard Etir (59:07) and Emmanyuel Moi Maru (1h00:06), securing the third position on the podium in the Japanese race.
Coached by Josep Carballude, the long-distance runner from Girona adds this new achievement to his impressive list of Catalan records, which already includes the marks for 5,000 meters on the track (12:59.26), 5 km on the road (12:57), and 10 km on the road (27:16).
