The Valls City Council has recognized the creativity of participants in the 'Reinventem els clàssics' initiative, a project that took place during the Sant Jordi festival. The main objective of the activity, promoted by the Department of Equality and Feminisms, was to encourage reading and foster a more egalitarian celebration.
The initiative invited children, youth, and adults to reinterpret classic tales such as The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, The Legend of Saint George, or Cinderella from a feminist and inclusive perspective. Participants were tasked with altering endings and characters to move away from heteropatriarchal stereotypes and incorporate values like equality, freedom, and respect for women and the LGTBIQ+ community.
“"It is important to work on co-education from the earliest educational stages and foster a more just, inclusive, and egalitarian society, both inside and outside the classroom."
The winning entries were by Maria José Garranza (primary category, Escola Enxaneta), Martí Garcia (secondary category, Col·legi Claret), and Emma Volpini (over 18 category). The department also presented gifts to Escola Enxaneta, Escola La Candela, Col·legi Claret, and Institut Jaume Huguet for their involvement.
The award ceremony was held at the participating educational centers, recognizing the students' creativity, critical reflection, and commitment to the values of equality.
