Ancient music takes center stage at the Nits de Clàssics de Valls with Blanch on the viola de mà (hand viola) and Clos on percussion, reviving pieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods that refuse to be forgotten.
The concert is a unique opportunity to discover the viola de mà, a string instrument rarely seen on stage today. It was highly popular in the 16th century and resembles a guitar in shape.
The repertoire for Viola de Mar is inspired by an imaginary book found at sea, featuring works by European composers such as Joan Ambrosio Dalza, Adrian Le Roy, Alfonso Ferrabosco, Josquin Des Prés, and Luís de Narváez.
This project, which offers both a sonic immersion and an exercise in updating ancient repertoires, received the Enderrock Award 2024 for the best classical revelation album, according to critics.
