RTVE journalist and artificial intelligence expert, Montserrat Rigall, warns from Figueres that technology should not generate fear, but respect and curiosity to harness its benefits.

The journalist from Figueres, Montserrat Rigall, a member of Verifica RTVE with over 25 years of experience in the corporation, is currently pursuing a doctorate on artificial intelligence applied to fake news verification. According to Rigall, the concept of AI, although seemingly sudden, has existed since 1956, when it was coined at Dartmouth University in the United States.

"Fear is logical, as in any disruptive process, and currently we are not in an era of change, but in a change of era."

Rigall insists that fear blocks progress, and must be replaced by respect and interest. The key is having the criteria to decide when to use AI, which can help develop repetitive and rudimentary tasks, freeing up time for more creative and human activities.

"AI will not take your job, but will give it to the one who uses it better than you."

Montserrat Rigall · Journalist and AI Expert
Regarding journalism, Rigall emphasizes that disinformation generated by AI always has economic and political lobbies behind it. To combat this, communication professionals must explain to citizens the need to be critical of the content they consume on social media, as human beings are irreplaceable due to their emotional capacity.
