Fishermen announced they will keep their boats moored and will not go fishing to highlight their rejection of the measures package. According to the federation, these rules “unnecessarily multiply” the procedures required to go to sea, calling it a “mess” that “puts at risk” fishing activity in the ports.
We have reached a point of no return; we cannot accept more rules that do not adjust to our reality.
The new European Commission regulation requires fishermen to issue a four-hour pre-notification via a telematics application. In this notice, they must send the estimated weight and species of all catches, affecting “all fishing modalities.”
The federation, chaired by Antoni Abad from Roses, reiterated that the Catalan fleet has already been halved in recent years. This phenomenon is attributed to the “disillusionment generated by imposed regulations that do not reflect our reality.” The protest comes shortly after the fishing quota agreement was described as “bittersweet.”
