Astrophotographer Juan Carlos Casado has confirmed that Alt Empordà will experience 98.5% visibility during the total solar eclipse on August 12, falling just outside the path of totality.

While the 100% totality path will cross parts of Lleida and Tarragona, the Alt Empordà region will see the Moon cover almost the entire Sun. This rare event, which occurs in the same location only once every 400 years, will significantly reduce daylight and temperatures across the Empordà landscape.

"It will be like going to a concert, running out of tickets, and listening to the music from outside."

To prepare for the event, Casado has co-authored the book Eclipses. La sombra de un gigante. The publication offers a scientific yet accessible look at the phenomenon, including eight experiments for citizens to observe how the eclipse affects local flora and fauna.
Safety remains the top priority for the August event. Experts warn that looking directly at the Sun through binoculars or without certified glasses can cause permanent blindness. Casado recommends purchasing protection only from specialized stores to avoid counterfeit materials.
