The Figueres City Council has announced the start of land preparation for a new Mercadona supermarket in the Vilatenim commercial area, scheduled to open by late 2026.

This will be the company's third location in the capital of Alt Empordà. The project follows a public auction where the company acquired the land from the municipality. Currently, heavy machinery is on-site for earthmoving and site preparation.
In conjunction with the commercial development, local authorities have approved a 323,108 euro urban plan to extend Viola Street. This new road will improve access to the Vilatenim Municipal Stadium and includes new lighting, sidewalks, and utility networks, funded by the land sale agreement reached in October 2024.
