The Institut Alexandre Deulofeu in Figueres recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle in Nursing Assistants and the 10th anniversary of the Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy. The event, held at the Caputxins auditorium, highlighted two decades and one decade, respectively, of health training at the center, under the mottos "20 years caring" and "10 years formulating the future".
The celebration included a dance performance by students from the institution, who were selected to represent Catalonia at the UNESCO International Dance Congress in Athens. The event combined historical memory, recognition of achievements, and a future vision for vocational health training in the city.
Speakers included the center's director, Anna Morillas; the managing director of the Fundació Salut Empordà, Xavier Verdaguer; the director of the Territorial Services of Education, Miquel Marcè; the director general of Vocational Training, Ricard Coma, and the mayor of Figueres, Jordi Masquef. Dr. Ramon Brugada also participated with a lecture, alongside former students and teachers who shared their experiences.
Director Anna Morillas emphasized the consolidation of Vocational Training as "a first excellent option" and highlighted how the introduction of the Health Sciences branch marked a positive shift for the institute. Currently, the center has nearly 1,000 students and almost 100 teachers, and has expanded the Nursing program to three groups due to growing demand.
A distinctive feature of the center's health training is its close connection with the Fundació Salut Empordà and the Hospital de Figueres, allowing students to receive practical training directly from healthcare professionals at the hospital facilities.
The event also featured former students and teachers, such as Cristina Serrabassa, Marta Genís, Andrea Comas, and Fidel Fernández, who shared how these studies have positively impacted their personal and professional journeys. Mayor Jordi Masquef underscored the importance of Vocational Training as a strategic pillar for the economic and social fabric of Figueres.
