The Figueres City Council has closed the 2025 fiscal year with a positive surplus of 5.8 million euros, marking a significant financial recovery for the capital of Alt Empordà.

This financial turnaround follows a difficult period in 2023, when the city faced an 800,000 euro deficit. The negative balance forced the administration into a financial recovery plan, which was successfully completed by mid-2025.

"This shows that the management we are carrying out is precise."

Ramon Pastoret · City Councilor for Finance
A key factor in this economic improvement was the 10 million euro sale of land in Vilatenim to Mercadona. This transaction helped lower the municipal debt from 46.7% in 2024 to the current 36.4%.
During this Thursday's plenary session, officials will also report a decrease in irregular invoices. In 2025, these amounted to approximately 393,623 euros, a sharp decline from the 2.2 million euros recorded just two years ago.
