Infrastructure improvements at the Rubí tunnel, which will remain closed for seven weeks, have forced a major reconfiguration of rail freight transport between Portbou and the Port of Barcelona.

According to Adif, trains using the Iberian gauge tracks must now cover 521 kilometers instead of the usual 192. This detour via Lleida increases the total travel time to seven hours, compared to the previous 2 hours and 42 minutes.

"The situation is very worrying; we are evaluating alternatives as many drivers lack the necessary certification for the Lleida route."
