Hellenist Eusebi Ayensa, based in Riumors, has been awarded the National Prize for translation of Greek literature for his Catalan version of Constantine Cavafy's complete poetry.

This marks the first time a Catalan translation has received this distinction from the Greek State. The jury praised Ayensa's ability to restore the authentic atmosphere of the Alexandrian poet, maintaining the colloquial and raw tone of his erotic and urban verses.

"For the Greek State to award a work in Catalan is a recognition of our language and our culture."

The project involved eight years of archival research and three years of translation. While the current edition is sold out, a new revised single-volume edition is expected to be released by Proa publishers by Christmas.
