The Junts party has confirmed that Enric Sánchez will be their candidate for the mayorship of Pont de Molins for the 2027 municipal elections. This decision comes a week after Miquel Àngel Castaño, also from Junts, regained the mayoral position through a no-confidence vote agreed with an ERC councillor.
The political formation had already expressed its disagreement with the no-confidence motion that removed the previous mayor, Marie L. Gournay, and which was supported by Jordi Carreras, an ERC councillor previously expelled from the governing team. The presentation of Sánchez as the new list leader aims to introduce a "new way of managing the City Council".
Enric Sánchez, 37 years old, is an emergency medical technician with twenty years of experience in the sector, thirteen of them at SEM. He currently chairs the Parents' Association of the School of Pont de Molins, a position that, according to him, has allowed him to better understand the municipality's reality and become actively involved in social life. He has also been linked to associative networks, volunteering, and popular culture, participating in entities such as CRE of Vilatenim and Civil Protection of Bisbal d’Empordà.
Sánchez has also been part of the Municipal Council of Vilatenim and joined the Junts list for Figueres in the last municipal elections. He asserts that the Junts team for Pont de Molins is made up of individuals "involved and committed" to the municipality, with "new ideas" and the will to listen to everyone, "always putting the town at the center of decisions".
This political move could intensify electoral competition in Pont de Molins, where, if no candidacy withdraws, up to four lists could coexist: that of the PSC with former mayor Marie L. Gournay; that of ERC, possibly led by Jordi Carreras and supported by the current mayor Miquel Àngel Castaño; Junts with Enric Sánchez; and the possibility of the return of former convergent mayor Josep Fuentes with Tots per l’Empordà.
