The L'Escala Town Council has unveiled L'Escala dels Llibres, a new literary festival running from March 13 to 15 that explores how travel has been depicted from Marco Polo to modern times.

Curated by art historian Enric Tubert, the festival replaces the former Vila del Llibre. The event aims to turn the coastal town into a 'port of call' for the book industry, featuring a market with thirty independent publishing houses and various cultural exhibitions.
Key speakers include Manuel Forcano and Josep Maria Fonalleras. The program also features literary tours dedicated to iconic Catalan writers such as Caterina Albert (Víctor Català) and Josep Pla, alongside poetic recitals and musical performances by Joina and the Indika choir.
The festival will also reflect on the impact of tourism on local landscapes, inspired by the works of Aurora Bertrana, ensuring a deep connection between literature and the geographical reality of the Alt Empordà region.
