The president of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, Jordi Mercader, has relaunched the magazine DALÍ NEWS in Figueres to foster international intellectual debate and overcome the prevailing pessimistic discourse about the city.

In the first article of this new phase, President Jordi Mercader recalls the vision of Salvador Dalí, who considered the Torre Galatea in Figueres should be a «focus of knowledge» inviting the world to utilize ideas, dreams, science, art, and anticipation.
Decades ago, the surrealist genius already believed that Figueres could be a place to reflect on major global issues, such as «war, the misuse of technology, or the nuclear bomb».

"The foundation has the potential to generate intellectual debate and expand the frontiers of knowledge on an international scale."

This commitment to audacity and debate contrasts sharply with the pessimistic narrative that has surrounded Figueres for years, focused on problems like immigration, crime, shop closures, and the exodus of residents to other municipalities.
The goal of the new DALÍ NEWS, whose first issue is dedicated to dreams, is to acknowledge problems but focus efforts on «dreaming a better one. And making it happen», moving away from constant lament.
