Approximately 500 students from 4th year ESO, representing 30 educational centers from the Girona region, gathered today at the archaeological site of Empúries to participate in the 13th edition of the Latin students' meeting.

The event, organized by the ICE Dolors Condom Classical Culture team of the University of Girona, primarily aims to emphasize the need to maintain and promote the offering of classical languages in high schools. According to the organizers, these languages are fundamental for students' comprehensive education and form one of the basic pillars of Western civilization.
The first edition of this meeting was held in Empúries on May 15, 2009, with the participation of 198 students from eight high schools. Since then, the activity has grown significantly and has taken place in various Roman enclaves in the province of Girona, such as Roses, the Via Annia, or Roman Gerunda.
Throughout the morning, participants enjoyed a variety of simultaneous and rotating activities, including a scavenger hunt through the Roman city, writing workshops, and Greek dance workshops. The day culminated with a gladiatorial show by the Drakonia group, offering a fun and educational experience.

"The day also aims to be an act of vindication of the need to ensure that the offer of classical languages in our high schools is not further limited, with the understanding that these are fundamental for the comprehensive education of our students and constitute one of the basic pillars of Western civilization."
