This new urban furniture, located in Plaça Catalunya, is the result of a project driven by the organization The Gravity Wave with the support of MINI Oliva Motor. The goal is to offer a new resting area for residents and visitors, while showcasing the potential of recycling to improve the planet's environmental health.
Since its inception, The Gravity Wave has managed to recover over 1,179,995 kilograms of marine waste thanks to collaboration with fishermen and ports. This model not only contributes to reducing marine pollution but also generates a positive impact on urban environments through material reuse.
“"This material is made from fishing nets recovered from the sea after their use for fish supply, which are now useful again to citizens, converted on this occasion into benches for pedestrians to rest and litter bins to keep our streets clean."
The automotive brand representative highlighted that this action reflects the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation, emphasizing the importance of promoting projects with a real positive impact on the environment. The collaboration with The Gravity Wave allows giving marine waste a second life, transforming it into practical solutions for cities and their inhabitants.
The official presentation of the new equipment took place this week, with the participation of representatives from the city council, the automotive brand, and the environmental organization. The Gravity Wave project primarily focuses on recovering plastics abandoned in the sea, especially fishing nets, to recycle them and convert them into furniture and other products.
