The measure, implemented after the Gelida accident and other incidents, aims to ensure the normality of the railway service.

Free season tickets for Rodalies, mid-distance, and regional Renfe services in Catalonia will remain valid until April 30, extending their validity by one month beyond the initial forecast.

This decision responds to the commitment made by the Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, to maintain free travel until the railway network fully recovers its normal operation. The measure affects the 10-journey tickets that were enabled following the fatal accident in Gelida and subsequent service incidents.

Minister Paneque also assured that 90% of the temporary speed restrictions (LTVs) imposed since the Gelida incident would be lifted during April, although some might extend into early May. These restrictions have been a factor affecting the fluidity of rail traffic.
The Gelida accident, which occurred on January 20, was a turning point for the Rodalies network. A trainee train driver died and 37 passengers were injured when an R4 line train derailed after colliding with a retaining wall that had fallen onto the tracks. Nearly two months later, it was confirmed that the train was traveling at 60 km/h in heavy rain when the wall collapsed.
Furthermore, the day after the Gelida incident, another derailment occurred on the RG1 line, between Blanes and Maçanet, due to a train hitting a rock. Although there were no injuries in this second case, both events led Adif to temporarily suspend all Rodalies services in Catalonia until the network's safety could be guaranteed.
Despite the planned lifting of LTVs, Adif's Weekly Document of Temporary Speed Restrictions indicates that passengers will be affected by 180 restrictions this week. The Barcelona demarcation accounts for the highest number of LTVs with 81, followed by Tarragona with 61 (18 of which are on the R15 between Reus and Riba-roja d'Ebre, currently without passenger service), Girona with 29, and Lleida with 9.
