The Waste Agency of Catalonia has launched a grant program to fund the removal of asbestos waste in Alt Urgell, Ripollès, and Garrotxa, regions severely impacted by hailstorms in 2025.

The Waste Agency of Catalonia (ARC), attached to the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, has opened the call for aid to manage fibrocement (asbestos) waste damaged by extreme weather phenomena.
In the Alt Urgell region, the subsidy focuses on buildings in the municipality of Les Valls d'Aguilar that suffered damage due to the severe hailstorm recorded on August 19, 2025, according to the report issued by the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat).
The measure also includes other regions that suffered similar damage in 2025. Specifically, Ripollès and Garrotxa will receive funds for damage caused on June 1 in municipalities such as Vilallonga de Ter, Llanars, Santa Pau, Sant Joan les Fonts, La Vall d'en Bas, and Mieres.
The main objective is to protect public health and ensure the safe disposal of these hazardous materials, covering both expenses already incurred and those planned for the future. Applications must be submitted within one month from the publication of the call.
