La Seu d'Urgell and Puigcerdà Fall 13 Points Below Catalan Socioeconomic Average

The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) has released the 2023 update of the Territorial Socioeconomic Index (IST), where la Seu d'Urgell and Puigcerdà scored 87.2 points.

This score places the two main capitals of the Alt Pirineu approximately 13 points below the Catalonia reference average of 100. The study shows a downward trend over the last decade; in 2015, the capital of Alt Urgell had an index of 93.6.
In la Seu d'Urgell, the historic center recorded the lowest level at 70.3, while the northern expansion area reached 97. This index measures income, education levels, and employment status.
Conversely, other municipalities in Cerdanya show strong results. Prats i Sansor leads the region with 125.9. In Alt Urgell, towns like Arsèguel (115.3) remain well above the national average.
