Economist and professor at Columbia University, Xavier Sala-i-Martin, will deliver the inaugural conference of the 5th Agrifood International Congress, focusing on the impact of geopolitical tensions on agri-food markets. The event, organized by Port Tarragona, will be held on October 15th and 16th at Tinglado 1 del Moll de Costa.
The congress will analyze the resilience of the agri-food system in complex and volatile contexts, as well as the logistics chain's response in uncertain scenarios. Over two days, discussions will cover new vectors in the agri-food system and the role of transport and logistics in the sector's business decisions.
The first panel, on Thursday, October 15th, will address the global and geopolitical context. Sala-i-Martin's inaugural conference is titled ‘A World in Tension: Geopolitical Impacts on Agri-food Markets’.
The second panel, on Friday, October 16th, will focus on new vectors in the agri-food system. It will include a conference by Ileana Axiotiades, Secretary-General of COCERAL, on European regulation, and a round table titled ‘Food, feed, fuel: the role of agri-food raw materials in the energy transition’, with participants from the Asociación Española del Bioetanol, Vertex, and ADM Agro Ibérica.
The final panel, also on Friday, October 16th, will be dedicated to transport and logistics. Under the title ‘Resilience, costs, and real decisions in a disruptive environment’, the impact of logistics on commercial decisions will be debated. Subsequently, the round table ‘The new bottleneck of agri-food’ will analyze the sector's technical challenges with experts from Ership, Grupo Jorge, and Port Tarragona.
The congress is sponsored by Noatum Ports, Bunge, Euroports, Ership, and Bergé, with collaboration from various sector companies. Registrations are open via the event's website.
