The La Seu d'Urgell City Council has rejected a motion to purchase the Guiu Cinemas in the short term, stating that the operation would require a six million euro investment.

The La Seu d'Urgell City Council plenary rejected a proposal by Junts and ERC this Monday to commit to the purchase of the Guiu Cinemas. The Compromís government team voted against it, arguing that the current economic situation requires prioritizing other pending projects in the city.
Mayor Joan Barrera estimated the operation at approximately six million euros. According to technical reports, three million would go towards the purchase of the building on Avinguda del Salòria, and another three million would be needed for renovation and compliance with current regulations.

"Governing is prioritizing, and administrations choose the proposals they find most suitable for contributions."

From the opposition, Francesc Viaplana (ERC) and Jordi Fàbrega (Junts) warned of the risk of losing an emblematic cultural facility due to the owners' upcoming retirement. They argued that the cinema is key to social cohesion and that external funding should be sought to save it.
