The decision has sparked protests across eight municipalities, where residents have displayed banners criticizing the 'shameful tax'. This 60-euro hike places the local waste bill among the highest in Spain, creating a significant price gap compared to the northern part of the county.

Joan Puig, president of the authority, explained that the high costs are driven by the geographical dispersion of small villages like Taús and Bóixols, and the lack of a local landfill. To stabilize future rates, MIGRAUM plans to audit municipal census records to ensure all residents are correctly registered and paying their share.
