The party warns that the lack of in-person university education in the city, limited to 40 places at INEFC Pirineus, forces the vast majority of young people to leave the region to pursue their studies. This forced mobility entails economic and time costs far superior to those faced by students in metropolitan areas.
Although connections to Barcelona and Lleida exist with affordable passes, Junts per la Seu reports recurring problems with capacity and accessibility. The main issue, however, is the total absence of direct connections to other key university campuses such as Bellaterra, Girona, Vic, and Tarragona.
Guaranteeing university mobility is an essential policy to prevent the future of young people from depending on their postal code and to fight against the depopulation of the Pyrenees.
For this reason, the motion urges the Generalitat to establish direct bus services from La Seu d’Urgell, with special attention to weekend travel. Affordable fares for students and schedules adapted to academic calendars are also requested. This petition was recently registered in the Parliament of Catalonia through deputy Jordi Fàbrega.
Furthermore, in the same plenary session, the municipal group will present a motion supporting the municipalities of Northern Catalonia in their demand for Catalan to be recognized as an official language of the European Union. The initiative seeks to reaffirm the commitment to cross-border cooperation to make Catalan a tool for cohesion.
