The City Council of La Seu d'Urgell, through Councilor Christina Moreno, presented the Carnival 2026 program, which starts next Monday with a strong social component focused on peace and coexistence.

The Carnival 2026 edition in La Seu d'Urgell will be held under the theme of peace, social cohesion, and youth participation. The Councilor for Festivals, Christina Moreno, highlighted that the council adopted a request from the Associació de Ball i Dansa de la Seu to make dialogue and coexistence the guiding theme of the celebration, a message visualized in the official poster.

"building community through these events that go beyond just partying."

The main parade will take place on Saturday, February 14, and expects the participation of about 200 people. A logistical novelty is that the route will end at the Sala Sant Domènec instead of the sports area. This change, according to the council, seeks to prevent the final stretch from feeling deserted, as groups had noted that children were getting tired, thus facilitating family access to the closing party.
The program includes two lines of conscious action: a digital campaign to promote freedom in costume choice, and the “inclusive premises” of King Carnestoltes aimed at schools and families, which include wearing mismatched socks on Monday, February 9 or going in pajamas on Wednesday, February 11. Furthermore, the Youth Party on Friday, February 13 at the Centre Cívic l'Escorxador will be divided into two age groups (12-14 years and 15-17 years) to comply with Decree 112/2010 and ensure safe leisure spaces, following instructions from the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police).
The program maintains traditional acts such as the recovered Ball de l'Ossa i de l'Indiot (Bear and Turkey Dance, organized by the Germandat de Sant Sebastià on Saturday, February 7), the Cantada de l’Estudiantina, and the Trial of King Carnestoltes on Tuesday, February 17. The Diables de l'Alt Urgell and Tambuka will close the festival on Wednesday, February 18 with the burning of King Carnestoltes and the burial of the sardine.
